Libby & Sams puppies page
May 06, 2009 : Libby started labor at midnight last night. First puppy was born at 4a.m. and she had 3 pups by 5:15 a.m. It was a very long night for all of us. She has 6 very pretty puppies. I believe (not quite positive yet until I get a chance to better examine them) we have 2 flashy fawn males, 1 classic fawn male (smallest pup at 12 ounces)..1 flashy female, 1 semi-flashy female and one classic female with a very thin white splash on her face..
One of the flashy males and the semi flashy female were the largest pups both weighing in at a full 16 ounces each. Libby is being very attentive and extremely gentle. To watch her, you would never realize this is her first litter. She is doing really well.
I will get some individual pictures of the puppies on the website gallery in a few days.
May 8th update: Vet appointment set for this afternoon for tail docking and dew claw removal & LIbbys check-up. The pups are all strong and nursing well. I was a little concerned about one of the classic fawn puppies but he is getting strong and fighting his way to a "feeding station" quite well now :) I went in this morn 4 a.m. he was on the top of the pup pile but had a "feeding station" from the lower deck in his mouth lol.. so funny.. other pups must have pushed up under him but he held on for dear life. (note to self) Libby may have an extra LONG "feeding station" on that left side since it was stretched to the top rack feeding area.. oh goodness, poor Libby sweety. It's still a fight to the finish to make her leave the pups long enough to even go outside to potty and stretch her legs a little, but she is eating well and an abundance of milk supply. So things are good.
Back from the vet and pups checked out fine, Libby checked out fine. The tails were docked and dew claws done.
May 12th update: Libby is eating enough for 4 dogs her size..so she has a lot of milk and these babies are little chunks..so fat and pretty.. They are getting stronger everyday and scooting everywhere.
We have 2 flashy males and 1 classic fawn female still available.
May 19th update: The puppies eyes are open now. We moved them to the livingroom with us to a large crate with Libby. We leave the door open so Libby can go in and out , the pups are still to little to get out of the crate and move around.
May 21st update: I gave Libby a break from the pups for a couple of hours and let her go outside to her dog run to get some exercise and sunshine. While she was out I cleaned crates again and trimmed the puppies nails. After that was accomplished I put the pups in the crate & moved them over to the doorway to sunbathe. There is a snorer in the group, snoozing in the sunshine and snoring awwww, it's wonderful life :-)
May 29th update: The pups went outside today on the front porch and slept in the sunshine, they stayed out for about 3 hours. Did you know that leaves moving on a tree can be endless fascination for a 3 week old puppy? Yes, easily entertained, but everything is new to them.
The pups were starting to nibble at Libbys food so I have started them with puppy chow, just a little to begin with to see how they adjust.. So far so good.
June 5th update: The puppies are now eating softened puppy chow twice a day. They are still with Libby also. They are exploring the house ever so cautiously and learning what they can play with and what they can't.. WHICH reminds me, new puppy owners please puppy proof your home and get ready for your new pup. If there is a wire where they can get it they will find it. Don't worry everyone is fine, they didn't get it because I saw what they were heading for and headed them off at the pass. :-)
I am taking new pictures this morning and will get them in the gallery as soon as possible. They are getting so CUTE..
June 10th update: The pups are doing great, they are eating softened puppy chow 3 times a day now to keep up with their growing little bodies. They all have great appetites and will finish their bowls like good little pups. :-) . Libby has started the weaning process now for real. She is laying on her "feeder stations" and not letting the pups nurse except at night.
There are 2 pups that want to explore on their own and not stay with Libby when she is wandering around the house, she is such a good mom, she goes and finds them then nudges them to make them stay with her.
The pups are 5 weeks old today, only 3 weeks left until they are old enough to go their new homes.
June 18th update: The pups are trying out their running legs.. They seem to work and work well !!!! I put them in the exercise yard today and will bring them in tonight. They love it there. They get to play in the sand and get all dirty just like a pup loves to do. I will have to brush them down before I bring them in tonight. Libby is only feeding the babies at night now, the rest of the time she spends running away from them or I will let her rest in her crate in the house.
JULY: All these pups have found great families. All sold as of July 15th 2009.
